In Rwanda, these baskets are often used to hold other gifts, like the one given by every bride to her new husband’s mother. They're also used to proudly display dry goods such as beans or rice in homes. You're welcome to use these baskets for the same purpose, however they are also great for all the things just waiting to get lost in your home like keys, jewelry, remote controls. Made out of sisal, a fiber derived from the Agave plant, this material is dried, brushed and baled for the making of our baskets and many other types of products. The natural coloring comes from soaking the sisal in a mixture of Rwandan tea, sand and water before the weaving process.
